A Day in the Life of:
Josh the Kodama

Narrator: Hello folks, and welcome to “A Day in the Life”. Today we will explore the fascinating life of a tree spirit named Josh. How are you feeling today, Josh?
Josh: (In a squeaky voice) Fine.
Narrator: Mind if we ask you some questions about your life as a tree spirit?
Josh: Okay, follow me. (Walks through the forest towards a giant tree) This is Mommy, say hi mom…mom?
Narrator: Tell us a little about your mother, Josh.
Josh: Well, she’s kind of a sorry excuse for a mother, I mean, she’s kind of neglectful. She doesn’t give us clothes, or go on any outings with us, or feed us. In fact, I think bobby starved to death just last week.
Bobby: No, I’m okay. I’m not dead yet!
Josh: Did you hear that Mommy?! Bobby’s okay, he’s not dead! Mommy he…mommy? She’s not listening… she doesn’t care.
Narrator: How do you and your siblings feel about this coming Fall?
Josh: What’s Fall?
Narrator: …Never mind.
Josh: Mommy, why is your hair changing color? I thought I warned you about the ill-marketing of hair dye, they’ll say just about anything to get you to buy it. Mom, your shedding! Mom, your BALD! I told you that the chemicals in the hair formula are bad for your scalp! Mom…are you even listening to me? Huh…It’s hopeless.
Narrator: Uh, okaaaaaay. So where is your father?
Josh: Oh, he’s around here somewhere. You must understand how hard it is for him to be around for us, he is a sweet, innocent, deer-thingy by day, and a ferocious, unsympathetic, merciless, killer by night. He has a very busy schedule so he barely has any time for us, unlike mommy. I think she’s gone into a dormant stage, or maybe she’s in a coma.
Bobby: Maybe Mommy died and we just never noticed.
Josh: Don’t say such things Bobby!!! You might jinx her.
Narrator: I think I see your father in the distance, is that him?
Josh: Huh, where? Oh, do you mean that big, black, looming shape of death, darkness, and fear? Yep, that’s Daddy. Hi, Dad! Um, Dad, where’s your head? And why are you spilling a poisonous toxin on the ground and killing all our aunties and uncles? Dad, you just murdered all my siblings! Dad you just killed Mom! This hasn’t been a good day.
Narrator: Um…Josh, I suggest we high-tail it out of here, don’t ya think?
Josh: Oh, look! Daddy got his head back! All my siblings are back from the dead! Mommy your alive too! Look Mommy, look, were all okay! Mommy? You know, I get the feeling Mommy couldn’t care less.
Narrator: And that, folks, is a day in the life of a tree spirit. Thank you for your time, Josh.
(Josh, however, is off in his own world, contemplating what just happened)
Josh: Maybe Bobby’s right. Maybe Mommy’s dead. That would explain the neglect, torcher, and the hurt feelings. I mean, she is a tree for crying out loud. I can’t believe no one noticed it before but Mommy is completely immobile…
